Game Day

The Cubs were in town to play the Royals over the weekend. We invited our friends Jessica and Mike to stay with us for the weekend months ago when we got the tickets.

This was Owen's first Cubs game but he surprisingly knew what he needed to do.

The boys enjoyed the game but loved the food. I think they might get that from me.

The peanuts kept them busy and in their seats for several innings.

The Cubs gave the game some punch by hitting back to back home runs but the  Royals ended up winning by one run.

But I will take it as a win. For nine innings, I sat in the shade while I chatted with one of my best friends, drank a margarita and spent time with these handsome guys.

another recap

We have been keeping busy and I have not been posting lately. I have been slacking on taking my camera with me when we are out and about and.... the dog ate my homework?

The week before Father's Day I woke up with an idea to send some art work to Grandpa since we wouldn't be seeing him.  I put the kids right to work as you can see they are still in their pajamas.

We ended up with a hands and feet collage. While we were doing it, I had them make one for me Jeremy too. I framed it today and hung it in our bathroom. It makes me smile.

A few weekends ago Jeremy and I decided to take the boys to the local amusement park, Worlds of Fun. I was under the impression that it wasn't that big of a deal because I have not been there and I had never heard of it until I moved here. That is how my mind works. Six Flags = big deal, Disney World = big deal.  But as I found out after walking a mile, it is much larger than I had imagined. We headed to the little kid area and Jeremy rode the rides with them while I stood and waved as they spun past me. On our way out of the park we had a caricature made of them.  I hung it in the hall way upstairs. It makes me smile.

On Tuesday while I was at work the boys belt tested again at Tae Kwon Do. Jeremy took my camera along so I got to see what happens.  Here is Owen breaking his board.

Ben skipped the low orange and now has a low green. I don't know what that means really, but we won't have to pay for him to test for the orange belt so Way To Go Ben!

Yesterday we had a very springlike day so we went to Deanna Rose Farmstead with our friends on a whim.

Owen was about seven months old when we first went to the "Farm" and Ben was two and a half.

My baby is all grown up now and able to ride a pony. Sheesh! At this rate, they will be asking for the keys to the car before I know it.

Field Trip

Kim and I took our boys to the zoo here in KC on Wednesday. We went when it opened at 9:30 and decided to just check out Africa. We were able to see many of the animals up close and apparently there has been a recent baby boom. Two baby giraffes were just recently brought out and the rhinoceros below was just lounging around with her babe.

There were a couple of ladies who worked at the zoo talking to us about the little rhino and they mentioned that since it was an endangered species that it wouldn't be staying here for all that long. Ben was really upset about the thought of the baby having to leave his mama.

In the spirit of the mom and baby theme, here is Kim and Joey on the carousal before we left.

The first week of summer break went by quickly. The boys spent a few hours each day at the neighborhood pool. They are back in their life jackets for now until they get comfortable again in the water. Once it warms up a bit I will get back in the water and help teach them what little I did last summer.  We went to story time at the library on Tuesday and they picked out a few books afterward. Ben has been keeping up his reading skills and is doing quite well. He already misses his teacher, Ms. Claire. Owen already knows his alphabet so we have been working on letter sounds and counting.

For now that's all I have planned for the summer. A lot of swimming, sunshine, hanging out with friends and reading and math thrown in to keep us from getting bored.
