Pictures as Promised

Owen did not want to smile today when I got the camera out, therefore, he did not smile. He hasn't been feeling the greatest this week and he may have passed it to me this morning. This one loves to share.

Our week was rather uneventful as I was just trying to stay indoors to dodge the oppressive heat. Jeremy and I met a friend at the plaza yesterday to watch a movie. I would have sent Jeremy alone to see Captain America,  but my intention was to see if it was appropriate for the boys to watch. I'm glad that I did not just leave it up to him, because I think that he would take them just so he could see it again. At the end I leaned over and said, "Ben is going to be disappointed that they will have to miss this one." His reply was, "Really?" ***Minor Spoiler Alert***The movie had many graphic scenes, one involving a man getting chopped to pieces from a propeller and half of the movie one of the characters was missing the skin on his face. And his reply was, "Really?" and then he laughed at my description of the guy without a face because his name is apparently Red Skull. Silly me.

When we got home Ben was somewhat distracted from my decision because he had lost another tooth while we were gone. Thank goodness for the tooth fairy. The last time he lost a tooth he decided he didn't like the idea of putting the tooth under his pillow and someone/something reaching under it while he slept. We agreed that the fairy would be able to make the transaction just as easily if he left it on dresser by the door. Every now and then their quirks work for the greater good.

Summer

I woke up this morning and panicked. Ben starts school in a month. Where has the summer gone?!?

We spent the fourth at a friend's house swimming. They had a small display of fireworks later in the evening. I get jumpy with these things, maybe from getting hit from bottle rockets a time or two, but I always expect the worst from fire and explosives. The kids all ran after the parachutes and were doing sparklers around dusk. Owen managed to burn himself with a sparkler, did I say I always expect the worst? He was fine, but I felt bad for the poor kid.  He snuggled on my lap as we finished watching the rest of the show. We arrived home in time to watch Lake Lotawanna's finale from the deck.

Ben and Owen have their last swim lesson for the summer this Wednesday. One of the neighborhood moms found an instructor from the YMCA that would come to our pool . The boys are doing great in the water again this summer.  They love their time in the pool and are lucky to have one so close.

Vacation Bible School was this week so the boys were gone from 9:30 to 1:00, Monday through Friday. Ben wasn't sure that he wanted to go. He is so much like me sometimes it is scary. I could tell that he was nervous and I was nervous for him but I let him help pack his lunch to get him excited. The look on his face when I left broke my heart, but I knew he would have fun and that Owen would love it too. After picking them up, Ben asked if they could go for two weeks instead of just one! They chatted excitedly all week long about the games and activities.  I took my camera along on Friday to get some pictures of the boys singing the new songs they learned  but I didn't end up with any.  When it was their groups turn to sing, Owen looked distraught, I thought maybe stage fright, so I went up front to give him a hug. He had somehow smashed his finger and was upset because it hurt. There is no doubt about it, this kid is also mine. He is just as bruised, scratched and accident prone as yours truly.

We were at the neighbor's most of the weekend. Jeremy and the boys had dinner there Friday evening while I was at work,  Saturday was spent in their back yard on their water slide with a couple of other families and we went back for more on Sunday.

I am on a mission to get some pictures of these kids this week!

Oh Brother!

I am so glad these two have each other.
They are buddies.
Owen looks up to Ben and Ben likes to lead Owen around.

I am also lucky enough to have a few brothers myself and one of them came out to visit last weekend!

The boys could not wait for Greg, Stephanie and Katie to walk through the door on Friday.

Later that  evening we sat and watched fireworks from the front yard. We spent Saturday lounging around the neighborhood pool and brought out the sprinkler ball on Sunday.

When I was pregnant with Owen, Greg blew this up without the help of a pump just so he could play with Ben. I'm pretty sure he was glad to see that it was inflated when I brought it out of the garage.

This little girl is the sweetest thing. She melts my heart and is so much fun to be around.

It was a great way to spend the holiday weekend. Thanks for making the trip out to see us!
