This Chapter Ends

Our family has been a part of Lakewood Montessori for over four years.  It all came to a close when Owen graduated.  My boys went in as three year olds and both left with such great experiences, friends and a wealth of knowledge. 

Owen had a bit of a hard time adjusting to the preschool routine.  He is sweet, but oh so stubborn. He does things in his own time and is not quick about it. I had regular meetings with his teacher regarding his behavior and listening skills. Her expectations were high and he ended up meeting them.  He is more than prepared for his next big adventure in the fall. 

It's hard not to get choked up when they are walking to get their "diploma". In an instant I could picture this little guy as a senior crossing the stage preparing for college.  My heart hurts a little bit about how quickly time as already passed by that I just want to keep them little forever.



Spring Sports

Ben played soccer again this spring. He's been on the same team for a few seasons so it is great seeing the boys growing. They all play well together and the other families are great.  Baseball overlapped part of the season which kept us pretty busy for a while....

Until Ben broke his arm!

Jeremy was an assistant coach for the team but Ben only got to play one game, but made an excellent bat boy.

Ben fell off of our play-set and was complaining that it hurt. Our backyard was full of neighborhood kids and he wasn't playing. I knew something was wrong. We took a trip to Urgent Care and was told that it wasn't broken. Being the excellent parent that I am, I basically told him to suck it up for the next week. A week later, he winced when I turned his wrist to look at the mess on his hand from markers, I knew then he needed to be seen by an orthopedic. We went the next day and after another xray we were told that he had a fracture on his wrist and one on his elbow. I feel terrible about ignoring his symptoms but he's had a bit of fun holding it over my head.  Oh the guilt!

His cast was waterproof therefore he would still able to swim during the summer. I kept a sharpie handy for him to have all his friends and family sign it.



Asking Owen

I did this last year and felt it was time for an update.

1. What is your happiest memory? "Harold's birthday party at Coco Keys."

2. Why do you like being a kid? "Playing over there with the neighbors."

3. One word to describe you would be _______.   "Cute, I'm going with that one."

4. What advice would you give your parents? "Good advice about money.  Give it to me!"

5. What are you really good at? "running fast"

6. What are you not so good at?  "Hmmm...I'm not good at doing yoga."

7. What do you like to do for fun? "Play Skylanders Giants!"

 8. What is your favorite thing to do at school? Why? "Art projects because I like to draw."

9. What is your favorite thing to do with your friends? "I like to play stuff with them...just stuff."

10. What makes you cry? "Getting yelled at."

11. What is the nicest thing you have done for someone? "I did all my work at school for Ms. Debbie"

12. What do you think you will be doing 10 years from now? "homework"

13 What do you want to be when you are an adult?  "toy designer"

14. What would be the ideal allowance? Tell me how you would use it. "$16 for more Skylanders Giants"

15. What do you think makes a person good-looking? "Getting dressed up for a wedding."

16. Name two things we should do as a family on the weekend. "Go out to eat at Texas Road House and go to Florida on vacation."

17. What is the grossest thing you can think of?  "poop...and farts"

18. What would you do if you were invisible for a day? "I would just play Skylanders and you wouldn't see me play it."

19. What is the best thing about having Ben as a big brother? "He helps me. He helped me clean up his room."

20. How are you different from Ben? "Oh, I'm really different from him! I like Skylanders a lot more than he does!"

21. What does Ben do that really makes you mad? "When he's really mean to me."

22. What is the best thing about your Mom? "I like that you love me."

23. What do you like to do with her? "Play Spyros Adventure Skylanders"

24. What is the best thing about your Dad? "He plays Skylanders Giants with me"

25. What do you like to do with him? "I like playing Skylanders with him!"

18. What would you do if you were invisible for a day? "Walk through the front door to play in the yard."

19. What is the best thing about having Owen as a little brother? "He's nice, helpful and plays with me."

20. How are you different from Owen? "I'm in first grade and he's in preschool."

21. What does Owen do that really makes you mad? "He wrecks things after I set it up and then I can't remember how I did it."

22. What is the best thing about your Mom? "She loves me a lot."

23. What do you like to do with her? "Watch television with her, like Gravity Falls and Dr. Who."

24. What is the best thing about your Dad? "He buys lots of toys for me."

25. What do you like to do with him? "Go to the movies."

Basketball

Just as soccer came to an end in the fall, basketball practice began. Ben had a great season made even better by the fact that one of his buddies from school was on his team.  



Valentine's Parties

Valentine's Day fell on a Thursday this year. When I told the boys that I wouldn't be able to make it to their school parties since I'd be working, the pouting began in full force.  I would be lying if I said that it didn't make me feel a tiny bit loved. They like me! They still want me around!  Of course I then did some switching at work and was able to take the day off.

They were both pretty proud of their this year and Owen was super excited to hand out his Skylanders cards and treat bags.  That kid is so obsessed with the game that he wakes up in the morning and goes to bed at night thinking of nothing else. He made sure that one of his Valentines made it back home with him.
