Asking Owen

We were hanging out this afternoon when I decided to ask the boys a few questions.  I think this will be fun for us to look back on when they get a little older.

Owen, age 4

1. What is your happiest memory? Having Framp (the stuffed dog that he sleeps with)

2. Why do you like being a kid? Because I get to watch tv

3. One word to describe you would be _______.   cute

4. What advice would you give your parents? Make paper hearts    ("I love lamp!")

5. What are you really good at? somersaults 

6. What are you not so good at?  cartwheels

7. What do you like to do for fun? play hide and go seek 

 8. What is your favorite thing to do at school? Why? Going outside and eating. I like to play and sometimes I get hungry.

9. What is your favorite thing to do with your friends? Pretend to be Mario and Sonic outside

10. What makes you cry? When you're mad at me

11. What is the nicest thing you have done for someone? I've did nothing

12. What do you think you will be doing 10 years from now? Playing with Framp

13 What do you want to be when you are an adult? a Policeman because I want to take Ben to jail. (Ben's already asked our friend who's a bail bondsman to get him out of jail)

14. What would be the ideal allowance? Tell me how you would use it. $10, to buy a walking, talking Hulk

15. What do you think makes a person good-looking? wearing make-up  (I've obviously scarred him with the daily before and after!)

16. Name two things we should do as a family on the weekend. go on a vacation to the beach, go to a hotel to swim. 

17. What is the grossest thing you can think of? puking   

18. What would you do if you were invisible for a day? go through walls and people and stuff 

19. What is the best thing about having Ben as a big brother? He loves me and plays with me and watches Star Wars with me. 

20. How are you different from Ben? I'm four and he's six  

21. What does Ben do that really makes you mad? takes stuff from me

22. What is the best thing about your Mom? She makes breakfast for us  (He rattled off the best things about Ben very quickly, it took a lot of thought to come up with this!)

23. What do you like to do with her? I like a lot of things that you do but I don't like you to tickle me. 

24. What is the best thing about your Dad? He sets up the wii

25. What do you like to do with him? play Mario



Ben's Turn!

Ben, age 6

1. What is your happiest memory? Meeting my friend in preschool.


2. Why do you like being a kid? I get to go to school and have fun.  (I love this!)


3. One word to describe you would be _______. Responsible    (Chalking this up to taekwondo)


4. What advice would you give your parents? Don't yell at each other.    :(


5. What are you really good at? Drawing


6. What are you not so good at?  Playing Mario on the wii


7. What do you like to do for fun? Play with superheroes in my room


8. What is your favorite thing to do at school? Play with friends at recess


9. What is your favorite thing to do with your friends? Ride my bike


10. What makes you cry? When someone punches me   (Owen has been hitting lately.)


11. What was the nicest thing you did for someone?  I made dad a superhero Christmas card and mom a birthday card even though it wasn't her birthday.


12. What do you think you will be doing 10 years from now? Learning how to drive  (Ugh, he's right.)


13.What do you want to be when you are an adult? An artist that creates tv shows like cartoons.


14. What would be the ideal allowance? Tell me how you would use it. $5 dollars, I'd save it for something really expensive, like a skateboard.


15. What do you think makes a person good-looking? A new hairdo (It's been 2 years! Still with the hair?!?)

19. What is the best thing about having a brother? He's funny


20. How are you different from Owen? I have a bunk bed  


21. What does your brother do that really makes you mad? When he does not want to play with me


22. What is the best thing about your Mom? She's nice.


23. What do you like to do with her? Go to the store.


24. What is the best thing about your Dad? He's fun.


25. What do you like to do with him?  cannonballs   (I think I was losing him by this point.)

These are the four things that Owen loves most in life; chocolate milk, his stuffed dog, Framp, macaroni and cheese and his brother Ben.  To get him to do things we want him to do, we threaten to withhold them. Yes we are poster board parents.  For example, Jeremy told him to brush his teeth last night several times then had to say that he wouldn't get chocolate milk today if he didn't.  He hasn't had chocolate milk in a while actually, which is a little indicative of his behavior lately. Last night when he was getting ready for bed we were playing in his room. Jeremy did something that I was teasingly blaming Owen for when Jeremy finally admitted that he was the one who did it. Owen and I both told him that he was in trouble. Then Owen told him very authoritatively that he would not be having any Chinese food. Oh, Owen, you do know your Dad very well.

 Later we were tucking him in and he was being a pistol and being rude so I asked him to say that he was sorry and to say two nice things to me.  He told me that he loved me, then after some thinking he started talking about the "junky" planes we crawled into at City Museum in St. Louis. He was scared to crawl up to the slide to get down with the big boys so I walked back down the stairs with him. I laughed and said something about keeping him safe.  That's when he looked at me and said "You're a hero!"

Framp's at the top of his closet already this morning but it's really hard to not laugh at this one.
