The last few days at the Guthrie's have seemed pretty mundane but I'm not complaining. We're having a ball with our run of mill adventures.
As soon as the invitation arrived early in the week, Ben was excited about going to Hunter and Kayleigh's birthday party and asked several times each day when we could go. He immediately announced that he should be in charge of picking out presents for them. Hunter would get a bat man toy and Kayleigh needed a princess necklace. Since we love the game Zingo we should get them that game to play together too.
We made a mad dash through Target on Thursday between preschool and speech class to find the perfect gifts. It was a tough decision between the bat mobile and the motorcycle but the batman motorcycle won in the end. We couldn't find a princess necklace so Ben chose a Tinkerbell purse with all the accessories. He thought a girl would like it. He reminded me that we needed to pick out cards for them too, which is another of his favorite things to do. We proceeded to the checkout and made a mad dash to his second speech class.

We walked over to the party bearing gifts for the birthday boy and girl Saturday at 5:30. If it were up to Ben we would have showed up at the party at noon. We enjoyed pizza and cupcakes with several other families before it was time to open gifts. Ben handed Kayleigh her present a tad early and talked her into opening it first-when no one was watching. After all the gifts were opened Ben was thrilled that Hunter said that he could play with the motorcycle too. Owen entertained himself by exploring all the new no-no's throughout the house.

While we were celebrating Hunter and Kayleigh's birthday, I was a little sad that I was missing a party that was going on at the same time in honor of Emily's (my brother John's girlfriend) 21st birthday and my Dad's 37th (so he says) birthday. Emily's birthday was on the 4th and my Dad's on the 6th. Jeremy was working this weekend so we were unable to make it out of town for the celebration at TGIF. I'm sure that the party wasn't complete without the level of noise that Ben and Owen bring to any gathering.

Sunday was definately the most exciting day around here. Besides finally getting the storage area under the stairs in the basement organized, our dear friends, the Burgins, were blessed with the arrival of their beautiful baby girl, Maya Jane. I showed Ben the pictures of the sweet little bundle of pink and he said "she's great". I have to agree. He loved seeing the pictures of his buddies with their new little sister and can't wait to go see them. I have pulled up the pictures at least a thousand times for us to look at since her arrival!

Ben is on spring break from preschool this week so I took the boys to Paradise Park to get rid of extra energy on Monday. They were the only ones in the ball pit and were loving it! We met Jeremy for lunch and then boys both took great naps. When Owen woke up I was ready to start my new decorating project in his room. We've been in the house for a year this week and I've started to notice a few bare walls. I've been on the hunt lately for things to make the house more "homey". The boys and I spent Friday searching through Olde Time Pottery, Hobby Lobby, Marshalls and World Market without too much resistance on their part.

Our last visit for the school year with our Parents as Teachers educator was also last night. Ms. Jennifer came over and thought the boys were doing wonderful. She was thrilled to see Owen walking and was impressed with the words that he is saying. She gave us some great ideas to help improve his gross motor skills over the next few months. She also had a few pointers about how to curb Owen's climbing and improve both boy's eating habits. Somehow fruits and vegetables have become intolerable to both of them but Layla's food seems oh-so-appealing to Owen. (Gross, I know but never
too boring around here.)
Owen's wall is super cute!!
ReplyDeleteI love the racecars!!! Hope he likes it. I miss the ballpit at Paradise Park! So much fun, I want the picture of Owen lying in the balls for my screensaver!! Too precious. Hard to believe they're big enough to both play in there together.
