Owen and the GIANT bed

Face paint is his own art from Paradise Park

Back in January we decided that Owen was ready for a real bed. We set out to a kids furniture store and picked out a great full bed and chest. We were told that it would take eight to twelve weeks for delivery.

I suppose that I jumped the gun a bit by advertising his changing table and current chest of drawers on craigslist. I received several inquiries and ended up selling them quickly. Owen's room has been very bare with only a toddler bed and bookcase.

At eight weeks, Jeremy called the furniture store to check the status of our order. He was told that it could be a few more weeks. I called at week twelve and was told that the furniture was ready and waiting on a truck to be shipped. The next day Jeremy received a call telling him that the furniture has not even been built and it could take up to twelve more weeks.

Later that week while Ben was at preschool, we took Owen to pick out new furniture at a different store. We found a great set that was less expensive than what we had originally ordered. The price was the same for a full size bed or a queen, so we opted for a queen.

Jeremy has been lobbying for a king size bed for quite some time. I kept nixing the idea based on cost of the mattress and new bedding and finding a bed that would match our existing furniture. He remembered that I had liked a wrought iron bed from one of those stores that send catalogs ALL the time and had found a NEW one on ebay for a fraction of the price. This time he came prepared. We spent the remaining time at the store trying out different mattresses to find one that we could both agree on.

The furniture arrived on Wednesday and it looks great. Owen looks like a teeny tiny peanut in his new bed but has adjusted to it much better than I had anticipated.

Edited to add:
I tried to take a nap with him this afternoon.  After laying down for a few minutes together, Owen says to me, "Mama this my bed, you too big to fit here."  I took the cue and left the room so he could nap.  The boy needs his space.

Spring!

We spent Friday enjoying the sunshine while cleaning out the garage and doing some yard work.

We went inside for about an hour then headed back out to play with friends, and the temp had dropped from near 70 degrees down to upper 40's. It snowed later that night and ALL day on Saturday.  So I'm sitting here reminiscing of the last few days and how wonderful it was to see the sun.

Kim and I took our boys to the Burrow Oak Conservatory to take advantage of the walking trails.  They zipped through the trail gathering leaves and looking for evidence of the wildlife that inhabits the area.  We spotted a playground on the way and made a pit stop there before stopping at Sonic on the way home.

Owen is still hit or miss when it comes to potty training but he did wonderful the entire afternoon.

He may be a side kick

but Robin certainly has a way of capturing the spotlight.

Wise beyond his years

Ben:  "Next year I'll be five, then six, then seven....then thirteen!"

Me:  "By then you won't want much to do with your Momma."

Ben:  Through tears, "I don't want to be thirteeeeeen."

Me:  "You're four, how do you know EVERYthing?"

Ben: "I already learned it all in school."

Ben: "Mom, when I grow up I want to be a pharmacist like you!"

Me:  "Really?"

Ben:  "Yeah then I can go to work with YOU when you work on Tuesdays!"

Jeremy:  "Ben come over here and let me look at your hand.  I'm a doctor."

Ben:  "No you are a pharmacist- NOT a real doctor!"

While getting ready to go to Kaleigh's birthday party at her dance studio Ben says, "I don't think my arms are strong enough to lift all those girls."

Me: "Huh?  Why would you be lifting up girls?"

Ben:  "When we are dancing I will have to lift them up!"
