Glimpse of what's to come.

I had a meeting with Ben's teacher on Wednesday. He will be ending his preschool career next month and she wanted to give me an update on where he is academically. Let me tell you, I am really proud of this kid.

Yesterday was Kindergarten Roundup for our school district.  When we were there to register we were given a tour of the Elementary School by a fourth grader. Ben was a bit hesitant at first but relaxed by the time we were shown the library and the playground.

I was doing great until we were taken to the cafeteria. I swallowed the lump in my throat and pushed back the tears as our guide excitedly talked about the lunch line and which tables the kindergarteners sit at. It is hard to imagine my little guy navigating through all the choices and entering his lunch number into the keypad all on his own.

We were taken to the classroom next and met two of the kindergarten teachers. Both were very sweet and oddly enough have the same last name.

He was given a packet of things for us to work on this summer. Ben is much more excited about starting school in the fall now that he has been there. I am so glad I will have all summer to spend with him and Owen. I'm sure by the end of August, I will be begging for school to start!

Today I fell down the basement stairs (again). The laptop did not survive this round. The bouncy house almost blew away this afternoon...

But the sun IS shining today so it could be worse!

Happy Easter

We stayed home this year for Easter.

The boys and I decided to make a special cake.

Grandma Guthrie made one of these a few years ago,
so I thought we would give it a try.

Owen wants to know if it will taste like bunny.

The Easter Bunny did not disappoint.

The eggs were gathered from the back yard in record time.

Ouch!

I'm fuzzy on the time line but a few months ago Owen knocked over one of the stools in the kitchen and it landed on his big toe. Jeremy called me at work and we decided to err on the side of caution, so he loaded up the boys and took him to the urgent care.  The toe was not broken, but the nail was badly bruised.

Owen has been terrified of not having a band aid covering it since the night that it happened. He just didn't want to look at it. It got to the point where he was afraid of getting it wet which made bath time quite challenging. The boys went to a pool party a few weeks ago and he wouldn't get into the water. He didn't want the band aid or the toe nail to fall off. We were getting frustrated with the drama. The nail was barely hanging on so we made the executive decision to remove it with clippers hoping to put an end to the madness. (Sorry this is kinda gross. Hope I didn't ruin your appetite!) Even with the offensive toenail gone and a new one growing in, he still insists on keeping it covered.

Last week he scraped his knee and needed another band aid. He fell again and had a little scratch under the first on on the same knee and had two bandages on the knee and on on the toe.

I woke up at 4:00 in the morning to the sound of a plastic cup hitting the floor in our bathroom. I went check it out and found Owen on top of Jeremy's sink-in the dark- trying to find another band aid because one of them on his knee was coming loose.

We are down to one on the knee at this point and I thought we were almost done with the obsession.

Clearly, we are in need of an intervention.

A First

It has been an exciting two days around here! Ben told me on Tuesday that he thought one of his teeth were loose.

Aren't you happy for me mom? I'm going to start getting my big teeth! The tooth fairy will come! When do you think it will come out? When will my new tooth grow in?

This morning he shouted "MOM! I LOST MY TOOTH!" from the back seat of the car while on the way to school this morning. I turned around to see him holding it it in his hand with a big smile on his face.

I'm guessing he'll be excited to go to bed this evening.
