Owen and the GIANT bed

Face paint is his own art from Paradise Park

Back in January we decided that Owen was ready for a real bed. We set out to a kids furniture store and picked out a great full bed and chest. We were told that it would take eight to twelve weeks for delivery.

I suppose that I jumped the gun a bit by advertising his changing table and current chest of drawers on craigslist. I received several inquiries and ended up selling them quickly. Owen's room has been very bare with only a toddler bed and bookcase.

At eight weeks, Jeremy called the furniture store to check the status of our order. He was told that it could be a few more weeks. I called at week twelve and was told that the furniture was ready and waiting on a truck to be shipped. The next day Jeremy received a call telling him that the furniture has not even been built and it could take up to twelve more weeks.

Later that week while Ben was at preschool, we took Owen to pick out new furniture at a different store. We found a great set that was less expensive than what we had originally ordered. The price was the same for a full size bed or a queen, so we opted for a queen.

Jeremy has been lobbying for a king size bed for quite some time. I kept nixing the idea based on cost of the mattress and new bedding and finding a bed that would match our existing furniture. He remembered that I had liked a wrought iron bed from one of those stores that send catalogs ALL the time and had found a NEW one on ebay for a fraction of the price. This time he came prepared. We spent the remaining time at the store trying out different mattresses to find one that we could both agree on.

The furniture arrived on Wednesday and it looks great. Owen looks like a teeny tiny peanut in his new bed but has adjusted to it much better than I had anticipated.

Edited to add:
I tried to take a nap with him this afternoon.  After laying down for a few minutes together, Owen says to me, "Mama this my bed, you too big to fit here."  I took the cue and left the room so he could nap.  The boy needs his space.
