The one with the recipes

 The Guthrie's

The arrival of a new year was spent with a few of our neighbors. Our weekly Friday night pizza nights came to an end in September.  We tried a few times after the accident- but admittedly it was hard.  In the few months months that have passed we have gotten together to celebrate childrens birthday, but New Years Eve was the first celebration since the loss of our friend Curt.

The progressive dinner started next door for appetizers then over to the lake for the main course. We headed back to our house for desserts.

Carolyn and Garrett

I found a couple on allrecipes.com that sounded great, but both called for a few things that I have never used- a bundt cake pan and a springform pan.  Not to be intimidated, I printed out what I would need and headed to Target.

The Nunley's

I made the Bavarian Apple Torte first.  I followed the recipe except I warmed the apple topping in the microwave for a few minutes as suggested in some of the reviews.

mmmmmm.......this is an actual picture what I made.

Next I made a chocolate cake, but not just an average chocolate cake, a TOO Much Chocolate Cake.  (Seriously, with a name like that- how could I possibly pass this up?)  I topped it off with Satiny Chocolate Glaze that I made in the microwave and bits of toffee.  Am I fancy or what?  They both did taste as good as they looked.
I received the cake pedestal as a wedding gift and finally found a use for it.

The Viola's

We sadly did not make until the stroke of midnight.  While Jeremy and I were cleaning up, not more than five minutes after our guests left, Ben crashed right there on the kitchen floor.

Happy 2010!
