No slowing them down

When picking up Ben from preschool on Tuesday he told me that he had gotten pushed down in the gym by another boy and hurt his shoulder and neck. I didn't think too much of it and asked him what happened. From what I gathered the two of them were fighting over who was friends with Jacob. I then asked what he did after he was pushed hoping that he told the boy to stop or went to get his teacher, Ms. Claire. Instead I learned that he tried to push the boy down so that his neck and arm would hurt too. I looked through Ben's tote bag for an incident report (one thing that I was used to from daycare) but the only thing inside was his tracings of the letter B. I did notice a slight bruise on his chest, but he wasn't complaining about being in pain. After talking to him about not pushing and what to do if he got pushed, I pretty much forgot about it.

Three days later when I picked up Ben under the arms to put him in his car seat he flipped out on me. He said that his arm really hurt. As the day progressed, I noticed that he was guarding his right arm and limiting his range of motion. When asked where it hurts he always pointed to the same spot. By the time Jeremy got home to take a look, the pediatrician's office was closed. I took him into urgent care Saturday morning to find that he had fractured his clavicle!
I felt like a moron for letting my kid run around with a fracture for an entire four days before taking him in to be seen. I was relieved to find out that they don't really treat broken clavicles in young patients and let the bones heal on their own. What a tough kid!

Broken bone or not, he hasn't slowed down one bit. We spent yesterday outside enjoying the short lasted heat wave. Our family joined our neighbors for an exciting game of wiffle ball. The kids had so much fun (and so did the grownups!) When the kids were up it was very noncompetitive but the game turned cutthroat when one of us were up to bat.

They have two black labs who are old and sweet which Owen loves. He is trying to say the word "dog" and will make the "woof woof" noise after it. It's a mutual affection since he usually drops food and they end up eating like kings. (If kings ate cheese and crackers that is.)

He was walking around outside by just holding on to one of my hands, but was still very hesitant to let go and walk on his own. He's been "riding" Ben's plastic tricycle and can make it go forward and backward with his feet which he thinks is pretty cool. He tried to catch up to the other kids who were on their scooters and bikes. He was so excited when one of them stopped so he could make it.

Owen pointing to his nose.

Owen has been learning so much in the past few weeks. When asked he will (sometimes)show you his hair, eyes, nose, belly and toes! He can also point to them on me. This is however only at his discretion, he looks at me like he want's to say, "I'm not your monkey mom. You know I can do this, why are you making me show EVERYONE???
