Farmtastic!

I've been trying to get through my list of fun things to do before preschool starts. Yesterday the boys and I took a morning trip to the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead in Overland Park, Kansas.

When we were last there Owen wasn't yet walking. He got to see the sights like he did at so many places, from the security and comfort of his stroller. He was able to get a hands on experience yesterday since the stroller remained in the car. Not to worry- there are child size hand washing stations conveniently located around the park. Owen has been brushing up on his animal noises and was very excited to talk to the chickens, goats and pigs.

The two things that Ben was looking forward to were the playground and the fountain. I was able to talk him into waiting on the "fountain" until just before we left. It was entertaining to watch them chase each other around on the playground, feed the goats and walk hand in hand to the cow barn.

Ben went on his first pony ride and wasn't scared at all, "I just held on real tight", he said. After the pony ride we decided that it was time to head out. It was a warm morning so as promised the boys were able to splash through what Ben referred to as the fountains (it's really just a small area of cement that has water running over it).

I took off their shoes and Ben asked if he could wade in it. I said sure without any thought. Ben was not content with the amount of water he was able to kick up, and before I could stop him, he was rolling around. When I asked him to get up, he said, but Mom, you said I could lay in it. That would be why he is in speech therapy.

In a hurry to see the chicken coop.

Ben is usually a chatterbox, but I don't think he said a word the entire 2 minute ride. I'm pretty sure that's a record. Should we get a pony?
